Crusader Mug and Cooker Set with Gel Fuel

This kit comes with a Mug, Cooker and 12 packets of gel fuel. It packs up tightly into the smallest of spaces, and if you have a 58 pattern water bottle the mug and cooker fits under that too. This article will show you step by step how I made a cup of mushroom soup!

Step 1

Add some fuel gel to the cooker. I have the choice of hexamine or gel fuel. See below for a photo with the cooker and a selection of hexamine blocks, also a photo of the cooker next to a British Army general issue hexamine cooker to get some idea of scale.

The gel fuel sachets are completely bio-degradable and can be disposed of in a fire without releasing any noxious gases. In fact the gel can be burnt in quite an enclosed space unlike hexamine.

All I have to do then is just light the gel with a match (in fact even a spark from a lighter will light it), and I don't need to worry about my eyebrows since it doesn't flare.

Step 2

Now just to put the cup of water on the cooker and sit back for a few minutes and wait for it to boil. A packet of gel will last about 20 minutes-ish, more than enough for a brew. The cup sits pretty safely on the cooker, but with all cookers make sure that the cooker is sitting on solid ground.

The cup is made from stainless steel and has lockable handles for steady drinking! This particular mug is PTFE coated, in other words Teflon. This stuff is great since any burnt food or muck can be just wiped out with minimal effort.

Step 3

The water has boiled, and all I do now is add the mushroom soup mix, sit back and enjoy!

All I do now is finish the soup and wipe the mug clean. The cooker will cool down pretty quickly.
